How Tatkal timing works

Tatkal is a same-urgency quota that opens one day beforethe journey date, counted from the train's origin station. Two windows open on the same morning:

  • 10:00 AM IST — AC classes: 2A, 3A, AC Chair Car (CC) and AC 3 Economy (3E).
  • 11:00 AM IST — Sleeper (SL) and Second Sitting (2S).

Tatkal is not available in First AC (1A) or Executive Class (EC). For the first 30 minutes, authorised agents are blocked — AC 10:00–10:30 and non-AC 11:00–11:30 — so Aadhaar-verified individual users get a fair head start.
